Going from a torque tube to a live axle rear end required major changes to the prop shaft. The R-28 trans has a Guibo joint on its output and the front section of its prop shaft ended at the center support bearing. Opel and Volvo prop shafts sections were combined to finish the drive train. The Opel front shaft was cut and mated to the Volvo's rear shaft with the Volvo center bearing located over the Opel torque tube support.
This setup allowed the shafts slip joint to be located behind the center bearing and in front of the forward u-joint.
